A Harvard study published at the end of 2019 says air pollution has the capacity to damage almost every cell in the human body, and in animals. Accordingly, the cleanliness of the air we breathe – and other associated gases – is set to remain a key issue in all the spaces we occupy – whether in the office or in the great outdoors, at work or in leisure time.
Organic and inorganic components such as mercaptans or ammonia can lead to unpleasant odours and, at worst, even pose health risks. But both can be reduced quite simply – with the aid of activated carbon from CarboTech. It filters unwanted substances from air and gases – quickly, safely and reliably.
BIOGAS, SOLVENTS, HYDROGEN
Our activated carbons for air and gas cleaning are used in a variety of applications. For example in biogas production. Here, they filter hydrogen sulphide, which is harmful to engines, from the digester gas, thereby helping reduce wear and tear on engines used in generating electricity.
Many customers also rely on our products and expertise when it comes to recovering solvents from the air. For example, print shops and large tank farms use our customised activated carbons to capture solvents that have evaporated into the air from the printing ink or petrol (gasoline).
Apart from this, hydrogen purification is one of the key gas cleaning applications that use activated carbon. This is because the synthesis gases produced by chemical compound plants contain a lot of hydrogen. Complex purification systems filter the valuable gas from the air and make it recyclable.

As well as water, many other liquids also need to be filtered. Applications are mainly in the food and beverage industries. Oil mills, for example, have to safely remove carcinogenic substances that may be produced during manufacturing of consumer products. Spirit producers often want to extract certain fusel alcohols from their spirits without altering the taste. And international lemonade and fruit juice producers often face the challenge of making their products taste the same all over the world at all times.

HYDROGEN – A GAS WITH A GREAT CAREER AHEAD OF IT
Government and industry experts are already calling it the “fuel of the future”, and the media have also latched onto hydrogen – indeed, this is a gas that is increasingly making news. Stock exchange trading floors, too, are seeing burgeoning growth in the numbers of companies looking to use or market hydrogen for propulsion purposes. Yet they all face the same problem, which is that although hydrogen is a fairly common element, it is almost always bound to other substances and can only be separated by applying great amounts of energy and technical effort. The most commonly used method is “pressure swing adsorption”, where the gases are passed from one container to another and are made to pass through a filtration layer.

CARBON MOLECULAR SIEVES (CMS)
In order to obtain high-purity nitrogen, manufacturers rely on so-called pressure swing adsorption (PSA). In this process, compressed air is alternately fed to two vessels filled with CMS. In the tanks, the CMS captures the oxygen molecules. The remaining high-purity nitrogen is then fed into downstream collection tanks and finally directly into the customer’s network.
其他工业活性炭应用领域包括:

油气回收:在加油站、港口等地,油罐进行转存、装卸的过程中会有大量的油气挥发,不仅造成空气污染还会有经济损失,利用活性炭厂家研发的活性炭-油气回收专用活性炭进行吸附、脱附的回收处理,有效的避免空气污染。
石油化工:活性炭主要用于石油化工业脱色提纯、石油化工水处理工程,并能除去石油中的有害物质,在合成工业上可以用来做催化剂或载体等。
催化剂载体:活性炭具有巨大的比表面积,有利于使负载的催化活性物质高度分散。活性炭有强吸附能力,负载催化活性组分的活性炭可作催化吸附剂,如铂或银负载在活性炭上,可起催化氧化作用和杀菌作用。活性炭本身也可使某些分子活化,如使氧分子活化。
